I have organized and participated in many Startup Weekends over the years and loves helping people get their ideas out of their heads and into the world. Without organizations like Startup Weekend, we might not all go for our dreams or push ourselves to do what we thought wasn’t possible.

Ben Marcum

“Ben Marcum is Louisville’s premier headshot photographer for actors and business professionals. He founded Ben Marcum Photography in 2013 to bring amazing headshot photography to Louisville. Since then, he has been creating headshots for actors and business professionals that know how much their personal branding matters. He studied under world famous headshot photographer, Peter Hurley, and is a currently a mentor in Peter’s training program, The Headshot Crew. An unexpected perk to the journey of starting a business and training in photography is that Ben has discovered a joy in working, teaching and mentoring other entreprenuers – most recently, at the international Headshot Mania, a Peter Hurley sponsored three day intensive workshop. Though headshots are what first interested Ben, he has also added personal portraits to his business. His portrait work has been described as “”Vanity Fair style”” and painterly, with the focus placed squarely and dramatically on the subject. “”It’s not just another picture. It is about making people feel safe and comfortable, forging a connection, and creating the best photo they have ever seen of themselves.”

Why do you choose to get involved with StartUp Weekend?

I remember the joy, fear, and excitement of starting my business and now I get to do what I love every single day. To be able to help other people experience that is an honor.
